About the trainer
Mike Labun, BA
Mike has a Bachelor's degree in Psychology and a Certificate in Conflict Resolution. He has over twenty years of experience as a leader in the violence prevention field. Through his training and consulting work, Mike has helped a variety of organizations become safer workplaces, including social service agencies, Indigenous communities, school divisions, businesses and crown corporations. He believes it is vital for organizations to increase their violence-prevention capabilities. As a trainer, Mike has an interactive and engaging style that easily motivates participants to incorporate workshop material into their own environments. He facilitates CTRI trainings and services in the areas of violence prevention, bullying, restorative justice and conflict resolution.
Due to the high demand for this workshop and its relevance to many workplaces, CTRI offers a train-the-trainer program for our De-escalating Potentially Violent Situations™ workshop. Training an internal trainer to deliver this workshop enhances organization know-how. It also saves costs at the same time.
Train-the-Trainer Program at a Glance
- Certification allows you to present this workshop only at your organization of employment

- You and your employer must sign an agreement that indicates acceptance of the commitments involved. View an example of a signed agreement. Please note that the registration process is not complete until we receive the agreement. Please mail it to us at your earliest convenience.
- Facilitate at least one training a year in order to maintain certification.
- Present the workshop in a manner that is consistent with how CTRI presents the workshop.
- As materials are modified from time to time to make them more relevant and current, you will need to review and adapt these changes.
Long term, for medium to large organizations, the train-the-trainer program is the most cost-effective method to train existing and new staff. With a certified instructor on staff, organizations can offer as many workshops as needed throughout the year.
In the first day of the train-the-trainer program, participants will take the De-escalating Potentially Violent Situations workshop™. Day two begins with a question and answer session, followed by a review of important facilitation strategies and techniques. Future trainers will then begin preparing for their role in delivering a portion of the workshop. On day three each participant will present a section of the workshop.

This workshop has been successfully delivered by CTRI Trainers for the past six years. In addition to exceptional content in the De-escalating Potentially Violent Situations™ workshop, CTRI trainers are dynamic and engaging presenters. To benefit from the same quality of workshop that CTRI delivers, it is imperative that thoughtful consideration be given to who would make a good in-house trainer. Ideally they will have the following:

- An engaging and insightful speaker
- An above average knowledge about violence
- Previous teaching and group facilitation skills

Registrations cancelled 7 or more days prior to the workshop are refundable, minus a $50.00 administrative fee. Alternatively you may receive a credit to attend a future training. Cancellations less than 7 days prior to the workshop are non-refundable. If at any time you are unable to attend, you are welcome to transfer your registration to another individual at no extra cost. In this case, please notify CTRI of the name of the alternate person who will be attending.
We reserve the right to cancel workshops due to unforeseen circumstances or under-enrolment. Liability is limited to a refund of workshop fees only. Please make travel arrangements with this in mind.

You Will Receive
A spiral bound training manual and workshop certificate as well as morning and afternoon refreshments. Participants are on their own for lunch from noon to 1:00 PM, unless otherwise stated above. For livestream participants, you will receive a pdf copy of the manual.
Group Registration Instructions
To register a group for a workshop, register for selected workshop, then once in shoppping cart, add quanitity of participants and provide names of all participants.

Continuing Education Credit
While many associations and licensing bodies accept CTRI workshops for continuing education credits, questions about approval should be directed to the specific association or licensing body for which you are requesting the credits. Credit hours: A two day workshops earns 12 continuing education hours and a one day workshop earns 6 hours. A certificate will be awarded upon the completion of the workshop.
