Marwa Fadol, MA, RPsych

Marwa is a Registered Psychologist in Alberta, holding a Master’s degree in Counselling Psychology from the University of Victoria. She works as a Mental Health Therapist at the School Based Mental Health Program with Alberta Health Services, providing therapeutic services to children and youth ages 6 - 18. This workshop is offered through ACHIEVE Centre for Leadership & Workplace Performance.

For leaders and managers, dealing with issues related to mental health in the workplace can be challenging and difficult to navigate. It is essential that leadership has the capabilities to manage mental health because early identification and support can lead to continued productivity, retention of employees and overall satisfaction in the workplace. This workshop provides a roadmap to help leaders participate in conversations with employees who may require support and accommodation when experiencing difficulties related to mental health. Participants will discuss practical strategies for creating a more inclusive work environment and develop a plan to reduce stigma surrounding mental illness. The workshop also explores how to create appropriate processes to address the needs of both employees and employers.

Target Audience

This is an intermediate level workshop that is highly applicable to anyone in a human resources, leadership or management positions, and who may need to appropriately respond to staff with mental health concerns.

Method of Delivery

Lecture, video, case study review, role play and small group discussion.

Learning Objectives

At the end of this workshop participants should be able to:

  • List the common mental illnesses that people may experience in the workplace.
  • Explain how to to engage employees in need of support when experiencing mental health difficulties.
  • Apply practical strategies to reduce stigma.
  • Design workplace policies that address the rights and responsibilities of employee and employers to create an inclusive workplace.

Cancellation Policy

Registrations cancelled 7 or more days prior to the workshop are refundable, minus a $50.00 administrative fee. Alternatively you may receive a credit to attend a future training. Cancellations less than 7 days prior to the workshop are non-refundable. If at any time you are unable to attend, you are welcome to transfer your registration to another individual at no extra cost. In this case, please notify CTRI of the name of the alternate person who will be attending.

We reserve the right to cancel workshops due to unforeseen circumstances or under-enrolment. Liability is limited to a refund of workshop fees only. Please make travel arrangements with this in mind.

You Will Receive

A spiral bound training manual and workshop certificate as well as morning and afternoon refreshments. Participants are on their own for lunch from noon to 1:00 PM, unless otherwise stated above. For livestream participants, you will receive a pdf copy of the manual.

Continuing Education Credit

While many associations and licensing bodies accept CTRI workshops for continuing education credits, questions about approval should be directed to the specific association or licensing body for which you are requesting the credits. Credit hours: A two day workshops earns 12 continuing education hours and a one day workshop earns 6 hours. A certificate will be awarded upon the completion of the workshop.
