Workshop Description
This is a live virtual event using Zoom, an online meeting platform. Please check system requirements prior to registering.
Working with individuals experiencing suicidal thoughts or impulses is challenging, which is why a broad and diverse approach is needed to prevent and respond to the issue. This workshop explores various insights related to suicide intervention, with a key emphasis on life promotion. Participants will practice the skills needed to identify and assist those at risk of suicide and learn how to support people and communities impacted by suicide. A guide for developing a comprehensive suicide intervention plan will be reviewed, along with direction for incorporating a prevention plan into each participant’s own context.

Target Audience
This is an introductory level workshop for social service and health care professionals, social workers, school personnel, support workers, and anyone seeking a better understanding of suicide and how to respond to it.
Method of Delivery
Presentation, video, case study exercises, experiential practice, personal reflection, and small group discussions.
Learning Objectives
At the end of this workshop, participants should be able to:
- Describe factors related to suicide prevention and promotion of life
- Explain risk and protective factors, including warning signs
- Outline the dynamics of suicide contagion and clusters
- List steps for a specific approach to suicide intervention
- Plan practical strategies for supporting all those affected by suicide

About Our Workshops
About the Trainer
Heather Woodward, MSW, RSW
Heather holds a Master of Social work degree, is a Registered Social Worker and has been working in the field for close to 20 years. She has spent much of her time working directly with children, youth, and families. Specifically, Heather’s passion is working with youth of all genders (ages 14-24) that have been impacted by violence, sometimes with gang involvements, all forms of trauma (mental, emotional, physical, and spiritual), addictions, mental health, and with individuals living with a FASD. She believes that even in the thick of trauma and/or crisis, people can use relationships and laughter to work through these critical moments. Heather values the lives and the stories of all the people whom she has the honor of meeting and walking with on their life path. She is an energetic and engaging facilitator who strives to find ways to build relationships and incorporate 'laughter' into the work she does families and communities. Cancellation Policy
Registrations cancelled seven or more days prior to the workshop/live stream are refundable, minus a $50.00 administrative fee. Alternatively, you may receive a credit to attend a future training. Cancellations less than seven days prior to the workshop are non-refundable. If at any time you are unable to take part in the event, you are welcome to transfer your registration to another individual at no extra cost. In this case, please notify CTRI of the name of the alternate person.
We reserve the right to cancel an event due to unforeseen circumstances or under-enrolment. Liability is limited to a refund of workshop/live-stream fees only.

Login details approximately 3-4 days prior to the event date, as well as a PDF e-manual, and a PDF workshop certificate.

Continuing Education Credit
While many associations and licensing bodies accept CTRI workshops for continuing education credits, questions about approval should be directed to the specific association or licensing body for which you are requesting the credits. Credit hours: There are six continuing education credits earned for each day of training. For example, a one-day workshop earns six continuing education hours, while a two-day workshop earns 12 hours. A certificate will be awarded upon the completion of the workshop. Filming and Photography
Crisis & Trauma Resource Institute reserves the right to film video content and take photography at our events. Some of our workshops will be live-streamed and filmed for participants not in attendance. Filming and photography may also be used for promotional materials.
