This is a live virtual event using Zoom, an online meeting platform. Please check system requirements prior to registering.
For those who work with youth, managing challenging behaviours that interfere with development, learning, or success can be both frustrating and exhausting. This workshop will review challenging behaviours related to aggression, non-compliance, and attention-seeking, and will provide a framework for intervening with these behaviours. Participants will analyze the effectiveness of their current approach and develop insights into what is happening when attempts at intervention do not work. Guidelines for structuring interactions for positive outcomes will be given, and a coaching model to bring out the best in youth who exhibit challenging behaviour will be provided.
Please note: This workshop does not provide training for clinical therapy or review clinical conditions that may lead to challenging behaviours.

Target Audience
This is an introductory level workshop intended for school personnel, social service professionals, support workers, parents, and anyone working with children and youth who exhibit challenging behaviours.
Method of Delivery
Presentation, video, case study exercises, experiential practice, personal reflection, and small group discussions.
Learning Objectives
At the end of this workshop, participants should be able to:
- Recognize the function of challenging behaviours
- Apply a coaching framework for behaviour change
- Evaluate their current intervention style
- Apply a framework for behaviour change
- Support children and youth in managing challenging behaviours

About Our Workshops
About the Trainer
Elaine Conrad, MEd, RP
Elaine is a Registered Psychotherapist and Teacher who holds a Master of Education degree in Counselling Psychology. In addition to training with CTRI, she maintains a clinical practice where she works with individuals and families who are coping with various mental health and relationship issues including anxiety and depression, trauma, addictions, and parenting/attachment concerns. Elaine believes that having unconditional positive regard and being non-judgemental are integral to creating great relationships. As a facilitator, Elaine brings a unique perspective to her workshops, drawing on her varied national and international work experiences. Her diverse education and work background not only includes teaching and counselling, but nursing, educational consulting, and extensive humanitarian work in sub-Saharan Africa as well. Elaine is also a contributing author of CTRI’s book, Counselling in Relationships. She utilizes her 25 years of experience in health care, counselling, education, and consulting to help make workshops engaging, interactive, and practical. Read blogs written by Elaine here.

Cancellation Policy
Registrations cancelled seven or more days prior to the workshop/live stream are refundable, minus a $50.00 administrative fee. Alternatively, you may receive a credit to attend a future training. Cancellations less than seven days prior to the workshop are non-refundable. If at any time you are unable to take part in the event, you are welcome to transfer your registration to another individual at no extra cost. In this case, please notify CTRI of the name of the alternate person.
We reserve the right to cancel an event due to unforeseen circumstances or under-enrolment. Liability is limited to a refund of workshop/live-stream fees only.
You Will Receive
Login details approximately 3-4 days prior to the event date, as well as a PDF e-manual, and a PDF workshop certificate.

Continuing Education Credit
While many associations and licensing bodies accept CTRI workshops for continuing education credits, questions about approval should be directed to the specific association or licensing body for which you are requesting the credits. Credit hours: There are six continuing education credits earned for each day of training. For example, a one-day workshop earns six continuing education hours, while a two-day workshop earns 12 hours. A certificate will be awarded upon the completion of the workshop. Filming and Photography
Crisis & Trauma Resource Institute reserves the right to film video content and take photography at our events. Some of our workshops will be live-streamed and filmed for participants not in attendance. Filming and photography may also be used for promotional materials.
