About the trainer
Alexis Power, MA
Alexis has a Master’s degree in Counseling Psychology and has been working in the social service field for close to ten years. She has a diverse professional background, working as a therapist in a private practice, as well as assisting individuals in the non-profit sector. Alexis has extensive experience working with people struggling with trauma, mental health and addiction, and has specialized in these areas for the majority of her career. Working in this field has provided her with experience supporting individuals in a variety of challenges, and Alexis brings this knowledge and experience into her role as a facilitator with CTRI. She believes in a holistic model for healing by taking an integrative approach when working with clients. Alexis’ passion for helping others translates into her workshops, creating an experience that is engaging, informative and fun.
This workshop is designed to move beyond general counselling skills and offer increased capacity and confidence to those wanting to expand their existing knowledge base and current skill set. Participants will acquire a deeper understanding of Cognitive Behavioural, Strengths Based, Narrative and Solution-Focused frameworks. Practical strategies and techniques of each of these leading theoretical frameworks will be explored and be accompanied with experiential opportunities to assess and understand their application within a counselling context.

This is an introductory-intermediate level workshop intended for social service and health care professionals, teachers, social works and anyone wanting to gain increased capacity in counselling skills.
Method of Delivery
Lecture, video, personal reflection, demonstration of skills, skill development and small group discussion.
At the end of this workshop, participants should be able to:
- Describe the key components of leading counselling frameworks
- Apply different strategies and skills in different helping roles
- Understand how personal beliefs affect being a helper
- Utilize questions and activities to help clients identify and meet goals

Registrations cancelled 7 or more days prior to the workshop are refundable, minus a $50.00 administrative fee. Alternatively you may receive a credit to attend a future training. Cancellations less than 7 days prior to the workshop are non-refundable. If at any time you are unable to attend, you are welcome to transfer your registration to another individual at no extra cost. In this case, please notify CTRI of the name of the alternate person who will be attending.
We reserve the right to cancel workshops due to unforeseen circumstances or under-enrolment. Liability is limited to a refund of workshop fees only. Please make travel arrangements with this in mind.

You Will Receive
A spiral bound training manual and workshop certificate as well as morning and afternoon refreshments. Participants are on their own for lunch from noon to 1:00 PM, unless otherwise stated above. For livestream participants, you will receive a pdf copy of the manual.

Continuing Education Credit
While many associations and licensing bodies accept CTRI workshops for continuing education credits, questions about approval should be directed to the specific association or licensing body for which you are requesting the credits. Credit hours: A two day workshops earns 12 continuing education hours and a one day workshop earns 6 hours. A certificate will be awarded upon the completion of the workshop.
