Tara Thomas, MEd


Tara holds a Masters of Education in Counselling Psychology from Memorial University. In addition to training with CTRI, she is a counsellor at a post-secondary institution where she specializes in personal and career counselling. Prior to this, Tara worked in the health care system as a Child and Behaviour Management Specialist combining a cognitive behavioural approach with skill teaching and solutions based counselling methods. She believes people are the experts on their own lives and with supportive guidance can persevere and overcome most obstacles that life presents. Tara places incredible value on knowledge and education to empower others. As a trainer she brings warmth and humour and draws on her varied experiences to make for an engaging, relevant training experience.

For those who work with youth, managing challenging behaviours that interfere with development, learning, or success can be both frustrating and exhausting. This workshop will review challenging behaviours related to aggression, non-compliance, and attention-seeking, and will provide a framework for intervening with these behaviours. Participants will analyze the effectiveness of their current approach and develop insights into what is happening when attempts at intervention do not work.

Mental health concerns will directly impact one in every five people. The remaining four will know a friend, family member, co-worker or acquaintance that struggles with their mental health. This workshop is designed for any person who knows someone who has mental health concerns.

Cancellation Policy

Registrations cancelled 7 or more days prior to the workshop are refundable, minus a $50.00 administrative fee. Alternatively you may receive a credit to attend a future training. Cancellations less than 7 days prior to the workshop are non-refundable. If at any time you are unable to attend, you are welcome to transfer your registration to another individual at no extra cost. In this case, please notify CTRI of the name of the alternate person who will be attending.

We reserve the right to cancel workshops due to unforeseen circumstances or under-enrolment. Liability is limited to a refund of workshop fees only. Please make travel arrangements with this in mind.

You Will Receive

A spiral bound training manual and workshop certificate as well as morning and afternoon refreshments. Participants are on their own for lunch from noon to 1:00 PM, unless otherwise stated above. For livestream participants, you will receive a pdf copy of the manual.

Group Registration Instructions

To register a group for a workshop, register for selected workshop, then once in shoppping cart, add quanitity of participants and provide names of all participants.

Continuing Education Credit

While many associations and licensing bodies accept CTRI workshops for continuing education credits, questions about approval should be directed to the specific association or licensing body for which you are requesting the credits. Credit hours: A two day workshops earns 12 continuing education hours and a one day workshop earns 6 hours. A certificate will be awarded upon the completion of the workshop.
