Harm reduction is an approach to help people explore their relationship with substances and behaviours. It offers strategies to reduce and mitigate damage and pain, and to increase and promote safety, choice, and control. This webinar explores the principles of harm reduction, how it works and for whom it may apply. Strategies are provided for working with individuals, families, and communities within a harm reduction framework.

Learning Objectives

Upon completion of this webinar participants should be able to
  • Differentiate between traditional approaches to “addictions” and a harm reduction approach
  • List qualities/values needed to practice within a harm reduction model
  • Utilize a relational framework for understanding and working with a person’s use of substances and behaviours

Target Audience

This is an introductory-intermediate level webinar intended for anyone interested in learning more about this topic.

Method of Delivery

Each webinar is 60 minutes in length. Live webinars will each contain 60 minutes of instruction from the facilitator using visual powerpoint slides and then there will be 5-10 minutes at the end of the webinar when participants can ask questions directly to the instructor and hear feedback from them in realtime. On-demand webinars include no interactivity with the instructor.

Completing Webinar

Upon viewing entire webinar you will need to take a post webinar test. A certificate will be given after successful completion of test. For those require ASWB and NBCC approved certificates a you will need to select that option. An evaluation form will be available to complete after submitting the posttest.
