Monica Bhatara, MA, RTC


Monica Bhatara, Trainer at CTRI

Monica is a Registered Therapeutic Counsellor and has been working in the community-based social services field as a public educator. She has provided services in a front-line and clinical capacity for over twenty years, specializing in the areas of trauma, addiction within the family system, and play and expressive therapies. In addition to training with CTRI, she has a private counselling practice and serves in a leadership role at a non-profit organization, providing her expertise in family preservation and re-unification programming, as well as trauma-informed practice. Monica believes in the power of human resiliency and the importance of building the capacity of paraprofessionals and non-clinical workers because they play a vital role on the therapy spectrum. As a trainer, she brings with her stimulating stories and a style that promotes engagement and facilitates learning.

For those who work with youth, managing challenging behaviours that interfere with development, learning, or success can be both frustrating and exhausting. This workshop will review challenging behaviours related to aggression, non-compliance, and attention-seeking, and will provide a framework for intervening with these behaviours. Participants will analyze the effectiveness of their current approach and develop insights into what is happening when attempts at intervention do not work.

In the summer of 2020, CTRI is offering a unique opportunity to complete our 10-day Certificate Program over a two week period. This program provides participants an opportunity to develop a set of competencies to effectively support individuals struggling with mental health.

The training will occur in Vancouver, BC starting on Monday, August 10, 2020 and concluding Friday, August 21, 2020 (9AM-4PM each day).
