Topic: No Time for Doubt

What happens after a failure? How can we pick up the pieces when things in life don’t go exactly as planned? For many women, the narrative of doubt consistently creeps into our everyday thoughts when trying to enact change or work towards important goals. Through disciplined, positive self-talk and affirmation, Alexa Joy will both entertain and educate on rebuilding ourselves after the voice of doubt becomes too loud and how systemic barriers collectively contribute to this voice for women.

Alexa is an artist, activist, and researcher. As a vocal percussionist, disruptor, and critical thinker, her work challenges white privilege, dominance, and supremacy through grassroots activism. Alexa encourages demonstrations of Black, radical advocacy through art, public discourse, and independent research.

As the Founder and President of Black Space Winnipeg – a grassroots organization advocating for Winnipeg’s Black communities – Alexa has developed platforms for supporting Black folks in the arts, human rights initiatives, and building community. She continues to encourage critical thinking about race, structural discrimination, and equity practices. Among many other acknowledgements, Alexa is recognized as one of CBC’s Future 40 Under 40 and is a recipient of the Sybil Shack Youth Award. She has dedicated her academic and professional career to breaking down systems of oppression and encourages artistic resistance through her advocacy.
