Public Workshops

Q – What time do public workshops start?
A – The workshop will start at 9:00 a.m. and finish around 4:00 p.m. Please arrive between 8:30 and 8:45 a.m. to sign in. Regular breaks are scheduled throughout the day. Participants are on their own for lunch from noon until 1:00 p.m.

Q – Where is the workshop location?
A – Go to our Public Workshops page to view the workshop you are attending. The workshop location can be found there, alongside other workshop information.

Q – How many participants are in each workshop?
A – To better facilitate group interaction, participation is limited to 60 participants in most workshops. Attendance usually ranges from 25-40 participants.

Q – Which workshops are coming up next?
A – Our final winter-spring schedule is posted in November and our fall schedule is posted in July. Go to our Public Workshops page to view upcoming workshops in your area.

Q – How will I know if CTRI received my order?
A – When you’ve completed your online registration, it will take you to a page stating that your order has been received. Shortly after you’ve completed the order, you will receive your invoice or receipt to your email. If you do not receive a confirmation within one business day, please contact our office. You can also view your orders on your account dashboard.

Q – Will I receive a certificate?
A – All participants who attend the entire workshop will receive a certificate of participation at the end of the workshop. The amount of continuing education credits listed on the certificate will be adjusted if you are only able to attend part of the workshop.

Q – Can I register at the door?
A – We strongly suggest you register in advance to ensure seating. However, if there is space available, you may register at the door (we encourage you to call in advance to ensure there is space available).

Q – Is lunch provided?
A – Lunch is not provided (except for the train-the-trainer workshop). Our training venues often have a restaurant on the premises, or there are restaurants close by.

Q – Will the room be warm or cold?
A – We encourage you to bring a sweater or dress in layers as the room temperature often varies.

Q – What is your cancellation policy?
A – Registrations cancelled seven or more days prior to the workshop are refundable, minus a $50.00 administrative fee. Alternatively, you may receive a credit to attend a future training. Cancellations less than seven days prior to the workshop are non-refundable. If at any time you are unable to attend, you are welcome to transfer your registration to another individual at no extra cost. In this case, please notify CTRI of the name of the alternate person who will be attending.

We reserve the right to cancel workshops due to unforeseen circumstances or under-enrolment. Liability is limited to a refund of workshop fees only. Please make travel arrangements with this in mind.

Q – Will I receive continuing education credits for this workshop?
A – Our workshops are approved for continuing education credits with the Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association (CCPA), Canadian Professional Counsellors Association (CPCA), Association of Social Work Boards (ASWB), National Board for Certified Counselors (NBCC), Alberta College of Social Workers (ACSW), Vocational Rehabilitation Association of Canada (VRA Canada), Association of Cooperative Counselling Therapists of Canada (ACCT), Canadian Assessment, Vocational Evaluation & Work Adjustment Society (CAVEWAS).

Q – Are there any grants or bursaries available to attend our trainings?
A – In Canada, you can apply for a Federal-Provincial Job Grant in order to receive funding to attend our trainings. This is applicable for those who are employed, but are seeking training to enhance their skills in an existing job. Please click on the province or territory where you reside: Alberta, British Columbia, Manitoba, New Brunswick, Newfoundland & Labrador, Northwest Territories, Nova Scotia, Nunavut, Ontario, Prince Edward Island, Saskatchewan, or Yukon.

Live Webinars

Q – When will I receive the login details for a live webinar?
A – Participants will receive login details by email approximately 5 business days prior to the date of the live webinar.

Q – How long are the live webinars?
A – The live webinars are 60-70 minutes in length.

Q – What time are the live webinars?
A – The live webinars begin at 1:00 p.m. Central Time. Please check your time zone.

Q – Will I be able to ask the trainer questions during a live webinar?
A – You will be able to ask a question or two by using the chat function at the end of the webinar.

Q – Will I receive a certificate for viewing a live webinar?
A – If you would like to receive a certificate at the completion of the live webinar, you can contact our office by email or by phone and we will send you a certificate via email.

Q – Is there a resource manual to follow while watching the live webinar?
A – No, we do not have abbreviated versions of our resource manuals available. However, you are welcome to purchase a resource manual on our website (please note that these manuals are intended to be used for the full-day workshops, so there will be more information than is discussed in the webinar).

Q – Can I receive a copy of the PowerPoint slides?
A – For live webinars only, a PDF of the PowerPoint slides will be included in the login details email.

Q – Will the trainer or other participants be able to see or hear me during the live webinar?
A – No, the participants and the trainer will not be able to see or hear you, but you do need to be sure that your microphone is muted.

Q – What is required to view the live webinar?

A – To view a live virtual workshop, you will need to have a desktop computer or mobile device with speakers. Please refer to the link below to ensure you will be able to view the live virtual event.  View our system requirements.

Q  – I am concerned about the security of the Zoom platform. What are you doing to ensure privacy and security for Virtual training?
A – The Zoom Security measures we take include:

  • A unique password for each virtual training
  • Screen sharing by participants is not enabled (only the host can share their screen)
  • File transfer is not enabled
  • The waiting room feature allows us to monitor who can join the meeting
  • The host can easily remove anyone from the meeting if needed

On-demand Webinars

Q – What is required to view an on-demand webinar?
A – To view an on-demand webinar, you will need to have a computer with the latest version of Adobe Flash Player and speakers. We also have a different free webinar available every month that you’re welcome to view.

Q – For how long will I have access to the on-demand webinar?
A – Once we receive payment, you will have access to the webinar for 30 days. After the 30 days, the link will expire.

Q – Will I receive the same information from the webinar as I would if I attended the public workshop?
A – No, the webinar is an abbreviated version of the workshop material.

Q – What does the webinar look like?
A – You will be able to see the presenter and the PowerPoint presentation at the same time. For an example, check out our free webinar.

Q – Will I receive a certificate?
A – Yes, you can receive a certificate for an on-demand webinar. Once you have viewed the entire webinar, a certificate request will pop up under the video screen. Complete your name and email address, and you will receive an email with the certificate attached.

Live Virtual Workshops

Q – When will I receive the login details?
A –  Participants will receive the Zoom meeting login details and information about viewing the virtual workshop by email approximately five business days prior to the date of the event.

Q – What time will the live virtual workshop start?
A – The live virtual event will begin at 9:00 a.m. Central Time and end at 4:00 p.m. Central Time. Regular breaks are scheduled throughout the day, along with a lunch break from 12:00-1:00 p.m. *Please check your time zone.

Q – Will I receive a certificate?
A – For live virtuals, you will automatically be sent a certificate if you are signed in to the chat. If you were not signed in to the chat but viewed the live virtuals, please contact us to receive a certificate.

Q – Will I be able to ask the trainer questions?
A – Yes, this will be a highly interactive day with breakout group conversation. You can speak directly to the trainer as well as you can type the questions you have through the chat function.

Q – Will I receive a manual?
A –Yes, everyone who registers for a Live Virtual Workshop will receive a PDF of the manual called an e-manual. The e-manual is included in the login details email.

Q – Will the trainer or other participants be able to see me during the live virtual workshop?
A – Yes, you are encouraged to have your video on during Live Virtual Workshops as it increases the quality of the interactions between participants and the trainers as well as in the breakout sessions.

Q – What is required to view the live virtual workshop?
A – To view a live virtual workshop, you will need to have a desktop computer or mobile device with speakers. Please refer to the link below to ensure you will be able to view the live virtual event. On-Location Training

Q – How can we offer a workshop in our community/school/organization?
A – We make it easy to bring our workshops to you. You can visit our On-Location Training page for more information about how it works, and the benefits of on-location training. Q – Are you available to do a training on a specific date?
A – We are normally quite flexible with training dates and can accommodate most requests. Check with our On-Location Training Coordinator to find out about our trainers’ availability.

Q – How far in advance should I book a date for on-location training?
A – We can often find availability on short notice. However, in order to secure your preferred training dates, it is best to contact us six weeks to three months in advance.

Q – Can you offer training in my remote community?
A – Yes, we will come to you! Our facilitators are based in most major cities across Canada. They frequently travel to remote locations throughout Canada and the US.

Q – What is the minimum or maximum number of participants needed for an on-location workshop?
A – We can accommodate any size of group. Most clients find that 10-30 participants is an ideal size for an interactive workshop.

Q – Do your trainers deliver keynote sessions?
A – Yes, please contact an On-Location Training Coordinator for specific arrangements.

Q – Can you customize your workshop to fit the needs of my team?
A – Yes, with on-location training we can easily tailor the workshop to fit your unique context. If you need a workshop that is shorter or longer than we have listed, we can often modify our delivery to fit your timeframe. Let us know if you don’t see the topic you need.

Q – Can we receive certificates for on-location training?
A – Yes, if you want them. After the workshop, you can submit a list of participant names to your On-Location Training Coordinator. We can create certificates for your group and send them to you in a PDF or printed format.

Q – Do your workshops qualify for continuing education credit hours?
A – Many certifying bodies have recognized CTRI workshops for continuing education credits.

Q – Do your trainers have experience working in Indigenous, First Nation, Metis, and Inuit contexts?
A- Yes, our trainers are culturally sensitive and see it as a privilege to be invited into Indigenous communities to facilitate training. We believe in building relationships and approach teaching with humility and an open heart and mind. Please see our Mission, Vision and Beliefs page for more information on our responsibility for reconciliation with Indigenous communities.

Q – Can you assist with planning multiyear training plans?
A – Yes, we can help you to assess your organization’s training needs to provide guidance for developing a training plan that builds on learning from one year to the next. One way we do this is through our multi-day certificate programs (Mental Health Counselling Skills, Crisis and Trauma Response) that can be done over months or years. We customize certificate programs to your specific interests. Check out our Certificate Programs page or contact our Managing Director for more information.

Q – Do you offer Train the Trainer programs?
A – Yes, we can train your staff to deliver most of our workshops using a Train-the-Trainer format. For our clinical workshops, certain education and clinical experience level requirements apply for trainers. We also deliver a public train-the-trainer program for De-escalating Potentially Violent Situations™. Check out our Train-the-Trainer page or contact our Managing Director for more information.

Q – Do you offer on-location workshops in French?
A – Our De-escalating Potentially Violent Situations™ workshop is currently available in French. Let us know if there’s a different topic you are interested in.

Q – Can you deliver training through video conferencing?
A – Yes, contact an On-Location Training Coordinator for more information.

Accessibility

We strive to make our workshops accessible to everyone, and for the workshop environment to be welcoming of all people. If you do not see your needs listed below, contact us and we’d be more than happy to accommodate your needs. Our workshops are spaces for people of all classes, ethnicities, genders, and sexual identities. We aim to be an all-inclusive space where people can foster their knowledge free of judgement.

Visual Impairments:
We can custom-print our manuals to fit your needs. We are able to adjust font type, font size, and paper colour. We can also provide a PDF copy of the manual for you to review ahead of time.

Hearing Impairments:
We will provide your ASL interpreter with a complimentary registration.

Mobility Impairments:
Please contact our office and we will make sure the workshop space is accessible.

Allergies:

If you have scent-triggered allergies or sensitivities, please advise us and we will contact the participants and ask that they refrain from wearing scented products.

Our workshops do not include lunch.  There are refreshments provided (coffee & tea) throughout the day and a light morning snack that may consist of whole fruit and muffins/pastries.  If these options do not suit your dietary restrictions, you may want to purchase something from the hotel restaurant or bring your own snack.

If you are attending a training where lunch is provided (Train the Trainer, conferences or intensive certificate programs ) please let us know in advance if you have any dietary restrictions or food-related allergies.
